It's been a rollercoaster ride[1] of carrots[2] and sticks[3], with the video streaming tug-of-war between Amazon[4], Apple[5], and Google[6] recently gaining new dimensions. You could say the first real blow was thrown in 2015, when Amazon said it would ban sales[7] of the Apple TV and Google Chromecast streaming devices on its store. Amazon last week reversed that course of action[8] however, and the week before that brought[9] the Prime Video[10] app to the Apple TV[11]. And now, on Thursday, it has brought the Prime Video app to Android TV[12].

For now though, the Prime Video app on Google Play[13] doesn't immediately appear to be available for download. At the time of writing, it wasn't compatible with any of the Android TVs we've tested or owned, had zero reviews, and only 10-50 installs. The app may just be in testing still, or more probably, the company hasn't updated the device compatibility list on Google Play. Google recently began pressuring[15] Amazon by blocking and threatening to withdraw YouTube support for Amazon devices like Fire TV family and the Echo show.
