The Apple iPhone 8 Plus[1] has been in the news for allegedly splitting open when charging[2] in the past few days. Now a fresh case of the iPhone 8 Plus reportedly popping open[3] due to a swollen battery has supposedly emerged in state media in China.  The incident has been reported while Apple[4] is investigating cases reported in Japan and Taiwan. China's ThePaper.cn cited an iPhone 8 Plus buyer saying that his new device had popped open at arrival but there was no sign of scorching or an explosion. The device was purchased through online marketplace JD.com and Liu said that he did not charge the device and returned it to the seller. Picture clicked by Liu show the iPhone 8 Plus with the display popping out of the body. An Apple spokesperson said the company is looking into the matter and declined to comment further.

Samsung phone explodes in man's pocket on video, company blames third-party battery
Samsung is in the news again for explosive reasons and it isn't the Samsung Galaxy Note 7[5] this time. According to reports, a Samsung phone exploded in a man's pocket[6] in Indonesia. The model is said to be a Samsung Grand Duos launched way back in 2013. The video shows a man falling to the ground as he removes his shirt after the phone explosion. Samsung told CNET that the phone had a third-party battery which was the cause of the explosion. Samsung[7] said, "We sincerely wish for our customer's swift recovery, and strongly recommend all our consumers to use Samsung's genuine or approved batteries that have been specifically designed for use in Samsung products."
