With Doom[1] coming to the Nintendo Switch[2], we posited that developers have no excuse to ignore Nintendo’s console. And it seems Rockstar Games has obliged.

Not only has the company plans to release LA Noire for the Nintendo Switch, but if an industry insider is to be believed, we could see Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) made available for the Nintendo Switch.

Taking to popular gaming forum NeoGAF, a user by the name of vern replied with “patience[3]” to queries of a GTA V port for the Nintendo Switch. Previously, vern was the first to tease of LA Noire for the Nintendo Switch prior to Rockstar’s official reveal.

 

Since its release in 2013, GTA V has been one of the biggest selling games of all time. And while Rockstar doesn’t seem to have plans for a GTA VI anytime soon, it has spawned GTA Online - which Rockstar parent company Take-Two claims is an important revenue driver. So much so that Red Dead Redemption 2[4] - Rockstar’s next big new game would sport something similar.

In an earnings call[5] investors were worried that the online mode for Red Dead Redemption 2 may cannibalise GTA Online. CEO Strauss Zelnick felt otherwise.

“I’m fond of saying entertainment is an unusual animal. And that entertainment properties don’t really compete with other entertainment properties and that you never need entertainment,” he said.

“Entertainment is something that you want to have, but it’s not a need to have. If nothing in the market appeals to you at some time, there’s no reason to go and get it. And if multiple things appeal to you, avid consumers will consume...
