Some OnePlus 3[1] users in closed-beta have reportedly received the Android 8.0 Oreo update and the builds are said to be on their way for OnePlus 3T[2] as well as OnePlus 5[3] handsets apart from the OnePlus 3. Further, the public beta for the Android 8.0 Oreo has been now tipped to be made available by the company by the end of this month. To recall, the company had in June revealed[4] that the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the OnePlus 3, 3T will be made available before the end of 2017, so it looks like the company is ahead of schedule.

As per a report[5] by Android Police, OnePlus 3 closed beta group has already received the Android 8.0 Oreo update and the stable builds for the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus 5 will be getting the update soon as well. Further, the report says that OnePlus will be making Oreo public beta available by the end of September.

It is surprising that the company chose to test the Oreo build first on OnePlus 3 rather than more capable and more recent OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5 smartphones. However, it should also be kept in mind that the closed beta Oreo build for OnePlus 3 is buggy and the company reportedly sent out a personal message to closed beta testers that says that there was "a high chance that OTAs/ upgrades could go poorly."

Some of the issues associated with the beta update are centred around the performance of NFC, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, among other problems. As OnePlus is trying to make the latest Android version available to more users as soon as possible, we can ignore...
